    As a student in the Academy’s School of Fashion, you’ll step into every facet of the industry—selecting fabrics, designing textiles, illustrating concepts, and building brands.       Fashion Design

      Discover your creative voice as you prepare to become a part of the global fashion industry.  As a fashion design student, you’ll research, source, sketch, drape, make patterns, and construct garments. Each project is a response to prompts designed to hone your originality and creative problem-solving skills. With support from faculty and industry partners, you’ll develop strong technical ability, design confidence, and critical thinking skills. These tools will help you build a portfolio that demonstrates your full potential.

      Textile Design

      Translate vision into tactile artistry. From fabric burnout and photographic screen printing to computer-assisted prints and knitwear, you’ll sharpen your drawing and color skills while merging design excellence, artistic vision, and innovative technology to create textiles that command attention.

      Costume Design

      Fuse rigorous sewing skills with industry-specific design training for theater and film. Collaborate with the School of Motion Pictures & Television and the School of Acting to bring characters to life with garments built for both performance and story.

      Fashion Art Direction

      Shape the way the world sees fashion. Build creative and technical skills to become a photo or video producer, art director, creative director, fashion editor, stylist, or social media content creator. Craft the imagery, fashion art direction, and experiences that define style and drive culture.

      Fashion Communication & Styling

      Blend the art of styling with the craft of storytelling. Develop skills in styling, image making, video production, writing, and social media—collaborating across disciplines to create visual narratives and building a portfolio that reflects expertise and vision.

        The lab is fully equipped for screen printing with more than 700 silkscreens, repeat yardage tables, U.V. exposure units, pigments, dyes, and industry-standard tools that take concepts from vision to fabric.

        Choose from over 800 garments, accessories, and props—with new pieces added every semester—so you can complete your styling projects without renting or buying outside the school.

        Our knitwear studios boast a suite of machines that parallel industry standards from domestic and punch card to double-bed and dubied. An extensive range of yarns and equipment allows the creative practice of knitwear design to professional standards.

        Our computer lab is built for performance with PC systems equipped with the latest software used across courses. A lab technician is available during business hours to keep your tools aligned with your workflow.

        Online Learning

        The School of Fashion offers you flexible programs that can be fully completed online, allowing you to earn a top-quality accredited degree from anywhere in the world. Our online programs mirror our on-campus curriculum with options for asynchronous learning. All of our courses are taught by working professionals.         For fashion students, assessment of work is as important as the work itself. We provide a collaborative online space where you can share work, exchange constructive feedback with peers, and receive custom instruction, evaluation, and critique from leading industry experts.

        Online students are encouraged to apply to have their collections featured in our annual runway fashion show. We also invite you to participate in industry portfolio reviews, In Conversation presentations, and styling events alongside your on-campus counterparts.

        Related Programs

        The School of Jewelry & Metal Arts teaches students techniques that range from traditional jewelry skills to the latest in laser, kinetics, mixed media, electronics, and 3D modeling. Collaboration with the School of Fashion plays a key role in documenting, assembling, and presenting final portfolios.

        The School of Photography will change the way you see the world. From day one, you will be immersed in the history, art, and science of photography. You’ll learn everything from how to tell a compelling story through images to the technical requirements for shooting in both natural and studio lighting environments.

        A Fine Art education at Academy of Art University not only teaches you the fundamentals of the classical tradition, it prepares you for a successful career in the real world. The foundational skills of composing, designing, drawing, painting, and sculpting are applicable across all artistic disciplines, including fashion.
