    Student Experience

    On campus, you’ll have full access to our camera room, editing bays, scene construction shop, and wardrobe shop. Our soundstages are open for student use outside of class, whether for homework or personal projects. Remote students can jump in virtually as crew members, producers, or directors. You can participate in our networking events, workshops, and livestreamed guest speaker series.

    Areas of Emphasis

      Director

      As a  director, you’ll drive the vision, lead the crew, interpret the script, guide performances, design the shots, and shape the final cut. You’ll graduate with a portfolio of film festival work.

      Producer

      Producers oversee it all, steering projects from development through production, postproduction, and marketing. You’ll master the skills to budget and schedule, while gaining hands-on experience producing films, series, music videos, and commercials.

      Screenwriter

      Weave ideas into stories. Create characters that stay with you, dialogue that rings true, and plot lines that pull audiences in. Collaborate on set with directors, actors, and producers while learning the full production process. Watch your scripts come to life on our soundstages, and graduate with a portfolio of television and feature work that showcases your voice.

      Cinematographer

      Paint with light and shadow, capturing a film’s essence through the lens. Collaborate with directors to design visual styles, shots, and lighting, using the latest digital and film camera technology. Work in every role on a camera crew. Shoot films, commercials, and more to build a reel that showcases your vision.

      Editor

      Blend footage, sound, and effects into a seamless story. You’ll work with the latest software and AI technology to cut narratives, documentaries, music videos, and commercials. You’ll spend time on set, collaborating with directors and producers, and graduate with a reel that proves your storytelling skills.

      Production Designer

      Craft the visual worlds that define films and TV by designing and dressing sets, choosing locations, and selecting props that bring stories and characters to life. Gain experience on sets for films, commercials, and music videos, building a portfolio of imagery that captures your creative vision.

        Soundstages

        You dream it, we build it. We have eight soundstages, fully equipped with lighting grids. Standing sets include: a bar, restaurant, coffee shop, loft apartment, homes with bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.

        Our black box theater, located in the main entertainment schools building South of Market, is used for teaching and incubating one-person shows.

        Camera Room

        Our camera room offers equipment to students to use on campus or on location. We stock lighting equipment, digital and film cameras, and grip and electric equipment.

        Wardrobe Room

        Our wardrobe room contains hundreds of articles of clothing—everything from contemporary to period fashions. We have an extensive collection of shoes, hats, streetwear, and evening wear. Open to all student filmmakers, the wardrobe room gives you the ability to dress the cast of your film in the style of your dreams.

        Editing Bays

        We have over 21 Mac editing bays and three private video editing suites available for student use, all equipped with Avid Media Composer, DaVinci Resolve, and the full Adobe Suite, including Premiere Pro and After Effects. We also have two private audio editing suites running Pro Tools and the Adobe Suite.

        Spaceship. Luxury loft. Detective’s office. Whatever you’re shooting, we’ve got the gear—sofas, sconces, rugs, artwork, hand props, relics. Whatever you need is already here.

        Scene Construction Shop

        Scene Construction Shop

        Flats, doors, windows: all pre-built and ready to shape. Our construction shop is stocked with saws, sanders, tools, and lumber. If we can sketch it, we can build it for you.

        Online Learning

        Our online program brings the Motion Picture and Television curriculum to you wherever you are. As a remote student, you can direct or produce over Zoom through an iPad situated on set, working with the same crews, actors, and soundstages as on-campus students. It’s a powerful way to collaborate, create, and network from anywhere in the world while building a reel of festival-ready work.

        Production Hub

        Production Hub is a collaborative production class where filmmakers of every discipline team up—with each other and with real-world clients—to create high-end content. From documentaries and PSAs to commercials, branded content, and educational media, you’ll work together to deliver polished, professional results that air on television, stream around the world, and win awards.
