Summer Intensives

The Best of Both Worlds

The School of Photography’s Summer Intensives combine the energy of campus with the flexibility of online study. Spend one immersive week in San Francisco, working hands-on in studios and labs while connecting with instructors and peers. Then continue for six weeks of online classes, refining your craft through projects and live critiques. What you learn onsite carries directly into your own studio practice and moves you closer to your professional goals.

Courses include Lighting, Digital Printing, Darkroom Processing, and Printing.

Summer Printing Intensive

Spend a week on campus in our digital printing labs, then refine your craft from home. Learn to achieve true color accuracy. Master correction techniques. Apply advanced strategies for professional output. By semester’s end, you’ll create exhibition-ready prints that showcase your vision with consistency and precision.

Lighting Intensive

Spend a week on campus in our professional studios, then continue honing your lighting skills from home for the rest of the semester. Explore natural light, continuous light setups, and advanced strobe techniques—learning to shape mood and meaning through light itself. With hands-on practice and guided experimentation, you’ll build a portfolio of images that demonstrate lighting skills that bring to life your concepts and creative vision.

Darkroom Intensive

Immerse yourself in the magic of the darkroom with a week of hands-on exploration, then refine your practice at home throughout the semester. Learn to process film, create fine-art silver gelatin prints, and experiment with contrast, tonality, and texture. By the end, you’ll craft black-and-white prints that showcase both technical mastery and personal expression.
